A few things I came up with along the way…
If there exists a writer in you, life will tease it out.
In order to tell a tale, one must first live it.
Everyone must be able to identify boundaries for themselves. The lines we draw outline the definition of who we are.
Take thoughtfully, give without thinking.
If you find yourself gifted at something, and you have no desire to embrace it, it just means that you haven’t found a reason to share your gift with the world.
A thoughtful concoction of reality and fantasy has a name, it’s called poetry.
Audiences are targeted in layers. One story, poem, skit, article, or song can be read or consumed by thousands, appreciated by few, but meant for one.
There is no fallacy in fantasy.
If you’ve failed, you’re not a failure, but if you consider yourself a failure, you’ve failed.
Everything that happens to us is a byproduct of a buildup or a come down. The only thing that occurs in an instant is the moment we notice the change.
If you want to get really good at something, find the sex in it.
Always being a gentleman doesn’t necessarily mean you are always a gentle man.
Don’t spend a lifetime trying to become the man of the hour.
Entrepreneurs create value, investors look for value. Two sides of the same coin.
If you can’t decide, always go to the restaurant with the smaller menu.
The steps will end before the mountain does.
Life is like walking backwards, you can only see where you’ve been and make inferences about the direction you’re heading in.
“Ladies first” has nothing to do with opening doors…
If you don’t feel pain, you never learn – lessons and growth result from some form of pain.
If you fall off track, jump back on the damn wagon and don’t look back. Don’t even think…just jump. You will find your groove.
Women: the most beautiful and complicated creatures on earth – God’s gift (and curse), natures drug, all wrapped into lovely form.
The questions we ask are the pick axes that chip away the stone concealing our diamonds of discovery.
Time heals and steals all.
Write it down: nuances of the moment will be lost to time.
Most of us are mal-prioritized idiots, including me.
There’s plenty of time, but none to waste.
Live the novel, write the memory.
The person you want to be tomorrow depends on the decisions you make today.
The pain of a good workout is dwarfed by the things life will throw at you. Push through it.
Life, done right, is addicting enough.
The possibility of failure is as much reality as is the likelihood of success.
Notice the pattern – test the theory – challenge the offense.
Always give advice in the form of a story, where the lesson is clear as day. Never tell anyone what to do or how to live their lives. A story creates a connection and sets a foundation of empathy where someone is opening themselves up enough to learn whatever lesson it is you are trying to teach. “Do this / don’t do that” creates two dissatisfied parties – “let me tell you a story about what happened to me” leaves a more lasting impact.
