Stamatis Kakleas
The best investment I ever made in high school was my first leather-bound journal. It was not a daily diary nor a keeper of secrets, but rather a log of life lessons, personal philosophies, notes to self (both present and future). Even the occasional short story, poem, or future business idea made its way in there. It was a way of organizing my thoughts, nurturing some creativity and imagination, and even communicating with my future self…
In a way, having an “about me” page for my personal blog is a little redundant, but also necessary to set expectations for potential readers. Every now and then I learn a thing or two, and sometimes I like to write about them. What started out as a leather journal has since evolved into a personal online blog (#GoingGreen).
I believe in writing as a means of preservation. Life is all too busy to remember every detail in specific. Memories can go stale or dissolve over time as we make room for the new ones. As humans, we are built to ride the waves of love and loss, pain and pleasure, and fear and courage as we sail through life. The emotional responses triggered by life’s events are relatively “short-lived” compared to the lasting impacts those events have on us. It can be easy to narrate the events that shape our personal histories but “re-living” the emotions we once felt in the a moment may someday prove difficult; hence the need to write it down (as best I can).
I generally only write when I “feel it” and post when I want to share . That’s it. It could be weeks or months before something new pops up here, so your best bet is to subscribe (if you are interested that is). There is no theme, pattern, or structure to this blog. It is a way of logging memories/thoughts/lessons and sharing them in an entertaining and spontaneous way. Some will be more direct than others and some might even be hidden inside fictional short stories or poems.
Please bare in mind, that I will likely read the passages more than you. It is how I keep tabs on myself, retrace my memories, and see how much I’ve grown. And finally, I vow to never post pictures of my avocado toast on this blog and will ensure to keep all passages to a minimum of 140 characters….
